Mr. Ouael CHOUCHENE

SpecialitySecretary of State for Energy Transition, Tunisia
Prior to his appointment as Secretary of State for Energy Transition in January 2024, Ouael Chouchene spent more than 6 years at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), where he was in charge of investments in the energy and natural resources sectors in Tunisia. He worked closely with the Ministry in charge of Energy on the reforms of the legal and contractual frameworks of the renewable energy programme. He also initiated and supervised a financing and restructuring programme for the public power utility STEG, accompanied by a reform roadmap designed around three main pillars: corporate and climate governance, modernisation of financial management and inclusion in the energy professions. More recently, he led the EBRD's participation in the financing of the Tunisia-Italy power interconnection project (ELMED). Prior to joining the EBRD, he worked in Europe in mergers and acquisitions advisory and financial auditing. Ouael Chouchene holds a Master’s degree in Management from ESCP Business School (Paris) and a Bachelor’s degree in Higher Commercial Studies from IHEC Carthage (Tunis).
