Thomas joined UNDP in 2010 as chief technical advisor on climate resilience and disaster risk reduction in the Haiti Country Office. In 2015, Thomas transitioned to the UNDP Regional Service Center for Africa, where he was engaged on supporting the Inter-Government Agency for Development (IGAD) in the operationalization of the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative in the Greater Horn of Africa. He later joined the UNDP Sub-regional Office for West and Central Africa in Dakar where he led the office’s engagement on climate resilience, ecosystem restoration, and access to renewable energy; coordinating with regional and global teams within the GPN and developing strategic partnerships with regional organizations such as the Africa Union Commission, the Panafrican Agency of the Great Green Wall, the Climate Commission for the Sahel region, the Congo Forests Commission, etc. As a technical advisor, Thomas has provided high-quality technical and strategic advisory to UNDP country offices in project and programme development and operationalization across the climate, environment and energy nexus in a context of crisis and high instability.
Thomas is an agronomist by training, with a BA in Agronomy and Rural Development and a Master of Arts in Development Studies with a concentration on Natural Resources Management from the University of Geneva. Before joining UNDP, he worked for the World Bank Institute on climate adaptation and water management in agriculture, as well as in the private sector and for community-led organizations in the field of agriculture and sustainable land management.
